Battle of the Betty Crocker Cupcake Mixes!!

Battle of the Betty Crocker Cupcake Mixes!!

Yes, Virginia, there is a Betty Crocker CUPCAKE mix! I found these in Target...there were two flavors available: Devils Food and Yellow! I knew I just had to give this a try and see what they were like.

Each box makes 12 cupcakes....and they are a little smaller than I usually like. We had everyone over for dinner on Sunday night and decided to have a Battle of the Betty Crocker Cupcake Mixes. The difference between the cupcake mix and the cake mix is that there is only 1 egg called for in the cupcake mix...3 eggs in the cake mix. Less oil in cupcake mix and less water.

Would it be the Yellow Cupcake Mix?

Or, would it be the Devils Food Cupcake Mix?

Layla voted twice...for each cupcake...she loves the cupcakes...but the overall winner on Sunday night was....drum roll, please...DEVILS FOOD! The concensus was that the yellow was a little too dry...good thing there was lots of frosting on it. The chocolate one was moist and not too airy in texture. It's a winner!

Rock on!

  3. This is my first time commenting, but I love your site. (: A cupcake specific mix, fancy that. Does your dog really get to sample the cupcakes? My dachshund would KILL to have cupcake tasting privileges!

I'm sure you have been asked this before, but how do you swirl your icing on top? Your tops always look beautiful! :-)

  5. Great cupcakes you've baked! Are there any differences if I substitute butter with oil for cupcakes? Thanks! Will be visiting this site every now and then! ;)

  6. Love, love, love your site! Thanks for all the great recipes and ideas.

My favorite (non-caloric) cupcake fix is cupcake lip balm from my favorite local home-based business woman: http://www.soapworksstudio.citymaker.com/catalog/item/1373019/938095.htm It smells so yummy and cupcake-riffic! Of course it makes me crave cupcakes then, but it's still excellent!

Ooh, fun! I'll give those a try. As many times as I've tried from-scratch cupcakes, my son still prefers the ones I make with Pillsbury Funfetti cakemix. They're tiny with a strong artificial flavor, but whatever.

What's your favorite way to transport them, CQ? I was just looking at the Cupcake Courier and can't decide whether to get it or not (it holds 36).

  8. I am so super jealous of your oh so cute cupcake holders - lovin' them. Ooh I'm so going on the prowl to Target for these mixes - they would be great for when you just want to mix up a batch but have no energy to be measuring out flour, sugar, etc.

  12. I love cupcakes and have been baking them a lot lately, but just from your basic cake mix and nothing at all as lovely as those featured here on your blog. Not only do you make a lovely looking cupcake (how do you get the frosting to look so incredible?!) but you photography them so well! I love the moon and star confetti on these.

  13. i'm definitely going to look in Target tonight for these. i know they probably taste the same as regular cake mix, just scaled to make 12 instead of 24 cuppies... but how I resist anything that has the word "cupcake" on the box??

    :)

  14. I just discovered your blog - and I just discovered this cool new product as well. And of course I had to buy it. Too, too yummy and just the right amount for our little family.

Is it okay if I use one of your pictures on my blog? I will, of course, credit the source.

  16. I love the stars and moons sprinkles! Where did you get them? All I can find by me are weird farm themed ones or just the flowers.

  17. Your dog is the best rep for your cupcakes! I just got into the cupcakes thing and i love it! But I still have trouble finding good recipes for frosting, something different than just chocolate or vanilla.
